The ninth annual ARGENTINA NEW CINEMA returns with another impressive lineup, including Argentina 's official Oscar submission for Best Foreign-Language Film, Pablo Trapero's CARANCHO! Opening the series is the first of many Los Angeles premieres: BROTHER AND SISTER, Daniel Burman's trenchant drama about dissimilar siblings coping with the death of their mother, and ROMPECABEZAS (directed by Natalia Smirnoff), which had an impressive debut at the Berlin International Film Festival 2010. Héctor Olivera's period piece EL MURAL tells the real-life story of Mexican muralist David Siqueiros constructing his masterpiece while in Argentina in the 1930s, and Rodrigo Grande's sly comedy A MATTER OF PRINCIPLE looks at a humorous, ethical power struggle between two willful coworkers. Also in the mix are the fascinating documentaries MUNDO ALAS, an inspirational tale of a troupe of musicians with disabilities that tour Argentina, and TRACES AND MEMORY OF JORGE PRELORÁN, about an independent filmmaker that gave Argentina a new cinematic identity. - From LALIFF
