Who Am I? The Found Children of Argentina/Missing Children

¿Quién soy yo? (Who Am I? The Found Children of Argentina)

Together on one DVD, LAFN presents the 1985 documentary by Estela Bravo, MISSING CHILDREN and her 2010 follow-up feature, WHO AM I? In WHO AM I?, the children of Argentina's disappeared are now young adults struggling with the discovery that the people who raised them were not actually their parents, but supporters of the military junta that killed their biological families. MISSING CHILDREN tells the story just as the search for their true identities begins. WHO AM I? brings us up-to-date with some of the children who have been found.

SYNOPSIS

Included on this DVD:

MISSING CHILDREN, 28 mins, 1985: Portrays the courageous efforts of Argentine grandmothers to locate their grandchildren who were among the innocent victims of the military junta's `dirty war' against the opposition in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Some were kidnapped; others were born in prison. The film includes interviews with military men and with children who were found and reunited with their families.

WHO AM I?, 75 mins, 2010: What does it feel like to suddenly discover that your parents are not actually your parents, but part of a network of military criminals who murdered your mother and father? Or that your mother gave birth to you one minute and was killed the next? Or that as a young child you were kidnapped and given to friends of those who tortured and killed your parents? And then to find your true family? The children of Argentina's disappeared are now young adults struggling with such complex and traumatic discoveries. For 3 decades, the Plaza de Mayo Grandmothers have been searching for their 500 stolen grandchildren, the children of their own children who disappeared in Argentina's Dirty War (1976-83). To date, 88 of these missing children have been found and have recovered their true identity. WHO AM I? tells their story.
