Frankie, desde la calle (Frankie, From the Street)
Victor Javier Ramos
Puerto Rico, 2002, 28 minutes

20,000 people live in the streets of Puerto Rico. Frankie is one of them. This gritty document recounts the story of this one young man, one among the tens of thousands of Puerto Rico's homeless whose stories will never be told. In his own words, Frankie describes his descent from troubled childhood into the increasingly powerful grip of drugs on his life. His addiction and the lure of easy money led him to juvenile rehab and ultimately to homelessness. He speaks candidly of the constant suffering and humiliation of his life on the streets and the degradation of being a slave to his addiction.

But Frankie is young, and intelligent, and is beginning to acquire a faith in God and faith in himself that may yet lead him out of his crisis. Will he be able to leave the self-perpetuating life of homelessness and addiction? Will he achieve his dream of helping other homeless youths leave the streets and the needle behind? FRANKIE, FROM THE STREETS shows us a young man whose soul is locked in a constant moral struggle that may bring him to redemption, or to perdition.
